The Shocking Truth about Candy — It's Time to Get UNREAL!

Now that Halloween is over, we're all probably going to spend the next several months eating the terrible ingredients that are in "candy"... but you may want to rethink your decisions.  But there is one entrepreneur who is trying to change that.  Meet Nicky.  He is changing the junk food culture by providing REAL ingredients that are responsibly sourced, supporting farming communities and preventing destruction of the rain forests.   No corn syrup, partially hydrogenated oil, GMO's, Artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, reduced sugar.  Celebrities are getting behind this campaign and backing this movement.  Look them up here.

Here are the real truths about candy and how it can negativity impact your body and health.
  • Artificial Colors
    • Studies show that it links to hyperactivity or behavioral disorders.
    • Increased hyperactivity in 3-year olds and 8/9 year-old children in the general population.
    • Linked to asthma, allergies, and even cancer.
    • Found in candies and chips such as M&M's, Skittles, Gummy candies, Smarties, Cheetoh's, Doritos, Blow Pops, Candy Corn.
  • Artificial Sweeteners
    • May actually promote obesity by tricking the body into thinking that sweet-tasting foods and drinks do not contain as many calories as they really do.
    • Double your risk for declining kidney disfunction.
    • Often found in products that say, "no-sugar added, "sugar free," including juices, juice boxes, "low-carb" chewing gum, candies, protein powders, protein bars.
  • High Fructose Corn Syrup
    • Contributing to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease
    • Found in milk chocolates, gummy based candies, gelatins, lollipops, most candies, juices, soda pop.
  • Sodium Benzoate
  • Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT)
    • There is evidence that certain people cannot metabolize BHA and BHT resulting in health and behavior changes and increasing their risk for cancer.
    • Ironically, BHT is banned in England.  See more details about this study here.

A Unique Spin on the Classic Hot Dog — Tokyo Dog Food Truck

Last month, I got to try out the new buzz around town, Tokyo Dog, Japanese style hot dogs and fries. Growing up eating asian food everyday, I had to try this, especially because of these two things: I love hot dogs and I love Japanese food. The hot dog I tried out was the signature Tokyo Dog, a smoked cheese bratwurst with Japanese mayo, furikake, tonkatsu sauce, grilled onions, bacon bits, and seaweed sprinkled on top. Overall, it was quite tasty.

Today, we hosted a special Google+ Local event just for our Top Reviewers. “Top Reviewers” generally have over 100 quality reviews using the Google+ Local feature on Google+. If you’ve never been to Wild Ginger, you’ll have to make some time for it… cause it’s that good! Our guests had the opportunity to mingle with other foodies and fellow reviewers in Seattle.

If you’re new to Wild Ginger, there are two Wild Ginger locations: one in downtown Seattle, and the other in Downtown Bellevue at The Bravern. The dim sum and hawker cuisine is only offered on Saturdays, 11:30AM–3PM and Sundays, 12PM-3PM. If you’re unfamiliar with “hawker centers,” they are: A hawker centre or cooked food centre (Chinese: 小贩中心 or 熟食中心) is the name given to open-air complexes in Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Riau Islands housing many stalls that sell a variety of inexpensive food. They are typically found near public housing estates or transport hubs (such as bus interchanges or train stations). (Wikipedia)
